Youth Ministry Update

Hey folks, I just wanted to clarify that Deluge is not meeting this coming Wednesday. Since we have cleared the calendar of Wednesday meetings for July (homegroups) it applies to Deluge as well. Our next Deluge meeting will be Saturday, August 14th.

Youth Ministry Orientation Night

Have you been part of Deluge or Metro Youth in the past? Maybe you’re entering 6th or 9th grade. Perhaps you’re already in middle or high school and haven’t jumped into Metro Youth or Deluge yet. We’re planning an orientation to kick off the 2010-2011 school year. We’ll have a time of worship, announcement of things that are coming up this year, and then you’ll get to meet with the folks in your grade for your first discipleship group of the new year. It all starts at 7:30, Wednesday August 25th.

Please know that even though we’ll be welcoming the incoming 6th and 9th graders, that’s only part of what we’re doing, so this meeting is intended for all middle school and high school students and parents. It’s also a great opportunity to invite people who have not participated in Deluge or Metro Youth to learn what we’re all about.

Deluge Ministry Night

This past weekend God met us in some powerful ways. We had a worship and ministry night in order to spend some time in prayer for the Lord to speak to us. He is so faithful to do that, and this meeting was no exception. If you were there and God spoke to you personally, please post a comment and tell us what he did. Awesome, Savage, Precious Day

This poem by Kevin Hartnett, taken from Josh Harris’ website, was too good to pass up. Please read it and allow your heart to be affected by the suffering of Jesus Christ on account of our sin. Enjoy this wonderful Easter weekend.

O day of hallowed history!
Set time in God’s determined plan

“If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain…And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Cor. 15:14,17-19).

Let me get this straight. Paul is admitting that if something that never happens (i.e. people randomly being raised from the dead) didn’t happen just this once (Jesus Christ not-so-randomly being raised), then we can chuck this whole Christianity thing out the window with the rest of the world’s false religions.

If you put it that way, it kind of makes what we’re celebrating this Sunday fairly important. And don’t worry. Christ was raised from the dead, so we have nothing to worry about.

Take the Relationship Survey

At Deluge Wednesday our discipleship groups took a Relationship Survey. One was designed for students, the other designed for parents. As we’ve talked about relationships the principals of purpose, protection and preparation have been highlighted as ways we can honor the Lord in the context of relationships. Wednesday Meeting Update

I wanted to send out a quick note to let everyone know how much I am looking forward to Deluge tomorrow (Wednesday) night, and to inform the parents that there will be no parents meeting as usually scheduled on our Wednesday night meetings. There WILL be a time of worship followed by student discipleship group meetings. I will have some discussion questions prepared for parents who want to form a smaller group in the chapel, but I won’t be leading a parent’s meeting as my custom has been the past few months.

Church-Wide Outreach this weekend

On Saturday, we will be hosting our church-wide out reach. If you have not signed up, you will have a chance to put your name down to come to the Orlando Women’s Center to interact with people who are planning on aborting their children. After the discipleship groups are done, we will hold a brief meeting for those who are interested in going in our chapel to equip you for your time there.

Abortion Clinic Visit

As we talked about in Deluge, we are visiting the abortion clinic to plead on behalf of the unborn. We will be interacting with women who are about to kill their babies, offering to help meet their needs if they will change their minds, and most importantly, praying that God would demonstrate the power of the gospel to change lives.

We are meeting at 6:30 until 8:30 on Saturday, March 27th. After our time at the abortion clinic, we will return to Metro Life Church for breakfast and then join others in the church to visit Hannah’s Hope.

For those who are interested in coming, you can email Lisa Chin, or RSVP on our Facebook Event page. For those who sign up, we will have an orientation meeting on Wednesday, March 24th, immediately after Deluge so that you are aware of exactly what to expect.

Worldliness: Are You Departing From God?

I came across this quote from a document entitled “Half A Poison Pill Won’t Kill Me” from Covenant Life Church. The author is Iain Murray, who defines worldliness the following way:

“Worldliness is departing from God. It is a man-centered way of thinking; it proposes objectives which demand no radical breach with man’s fallen nature; it judges the importance of things by the present and material results; it weighs success by numbers; it covets human esteem and wants no unpopularity; it knows no truth for which it is worth suffering; it declines to be a ‘fool for Christ’s sake’. Worldliness is the mind-set of the unregenerate. It adopts idols and is at war with God” —Iain H. Murray, Evangelicalism Divided.

Based on this definition, are you worldly? Do you think in a man-centered or God-centered way? Do you frequently “radically breach” with your sinful nature? Are you bothered by suffering and “unpopularity”? Take some time to ask yourselves and your parents these questions to help discover where worldliness shows up in your life.
