Deluge Student Council

Over the summer we have been making some plans for the next school year which we are excited to tell you about. You will hear much more about some of these plans at our Orientation next Wednesday (August 25th), but I wanted to tell you about a new Student Council that will be forming over the next month.

We are looking for 6 or 7 high school students interested in accepting this leadership and service challenge by being part of the Student Council, and providing leadership for various Deluge activities throughout the year. If you are interested in being part of this group, please talk to your parents and then fill out a questionnaire we have prepared to help us assemble this group. You can download the questionnaire here.

A great need of any generation is men and women who will rise up to the challenge of leadership and allow God to use them to make a difference in the lives of others. High school is a time when God often begins to form the character in us and provide learning experiences that will prepare us for the challenges and fruitfulness he has for us in the future. Serving on the Student Council will be a context in which this leadership development can occur.

Deluge Ministry Night

This past weekend God met us in some powerful ways. We had a worship and ministry night in order to spend some time in prayer for the Lord to speak to us. He is so faithful to do that, and this meeting was no exception. If you were there and God spoke to you personally, please post a comment and tell us what he did. For the rest of us, here’s a video of the skit called “Everything” that was performed on Saturday. Great job, guys!

Awesome, Savage, Precious Day

This poem by Kevin Hartnett, taken from Josh Harris’ website, was too good to pass up. Please read it and allow your heart to be affected by the suffering of Jesus Christ on account of our sin. Enjoy this wonderful Easter weekend.

How awesome is that day to me-
O day of hallowed history!
Set time in God’s determined plan
To sacrifice the Son of Man.
What famous work that day was done
By Jesus Christ, His Perfect Son!
The Second Adam, sent to save,
Humbly obeying to the grave!

How savage is that day to me-
O day of pure brutality!
When Christ, the Son of God Most High,
Was fiercely whipped and hung to die.
And O the horror of my sin,
Seen there in His appalling skin!
For God struck down- as meant for me-
The sinless One, at Calvary.

How precious is that day to me-
O day of purchased liberty!
In Him, a freeman now I live;
My sins, through death, did God forgive.
No wrath at length looms o’er my head,
But lovingkindness there instead.
His righteousness, my guilt replaced,

I guess Easter is pretty important, then

“If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain…And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied” (1 Cor. 15:14,17-19).

Let me get this straight. Paul is admitting that if something that never happens (i.e. people randomly being raised from the dead) didn’t happen just this once (Jesus Christ not-so-randomly being raised), then we can chuck this whole Christianity thing out the window with the rest of the world’s false religions.

If you put it that way, it kind of makes what we’re celebrating this Sunday fairly important. And don’t worry. Christ was raised from the dead, so we have nothing to worry about.

Take the Relationship Survey

At Deluge Wednesday our discipleship groups took a Relationship Survey. One was designed for students, the other designed for parents. As we’ve talked about relationships the principals of purpose, protection and preparation have been highlighted as ways we can honor the Lord in the context of relationships.
